New Delhi, March 12: Kangana Ranaut, BJP MP, on Thursday criticised the Opposition for protesting over the reported shortage of LPG cylinders across the country, accusing them of trying to “create panic and mislead the public.” She expressed confidence that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would manage the situation effectively, just as he did during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ranaut praised Modi’s leadership, stating that despite global inflation, India continues to launch new development projects regularly. She said the government has already assured citizens about the LPG supply situation and urged people to trust the Prime Minister’s leadership during the current challenges.
Meanwhile, the Opposition, led by Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, continued protests in the Parliament premises demanding a discussion on the reported LPG shortage. Leaders of the INDIA bloc have called for a debate in Parliament, citing concerns that the situation may worsen amid the ongoing tensions in West Asia.
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor also urged the government to allow a discussion in Parliament, emphasising that such issues should be addressed publicly to reassure citizens. He pointed out that long queues have been reported at LPG distribution centres and claimed that some restaurants are struggling due to a lack of cooking gas.
Tharoor said Parliament should serve as a platform for transparent discussions and for the government to clarify the situation to the public.
Reports indicate that the LPG shortage has affected several regions of the country. In Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, some restaurants have temporarily shifted to induction cooking to continue operations. The disruption has been linked to global supply issues following escalating tensions in the Middle East and shipping disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.
Residents in Bhopal were also seen waiting in long queues outside gas agencies to obtain LPG cylinders, highlighting the growing concerns over fuel availability.
