Washington: Actor Daniel Radcliffe, best known for playing the lead role in the Harry Potter film series, has spoken candidly about the pressures faced by child actors, saying therapy should be mandatory for young performers in the entertainment industry.
During an appearance on One Nightstand With Daniel Radcliffe by Bustle, the actor discussed the mental health challenges that many child stars experience while growing up in the public eye.
Radcliffe said the common perception that young actors live a glamorous and perfect life often hides the emotional struggles they may face behind the scenes.
“The illusion that child stars are living a perfect dream can be crushing behind the scenes, which is exactly why therapy should be built into the system,” he said, highlighting the need for structured mental health support in the industry.
The actor also reflected on his own experience while filming the Harry Potter movies in the early 2000s in the United Kingdom. He noted that discussions around mental health were not as common at the time, but said he was fortunate to be surrounded by supportive people who helped make his experience positive.
Radcliffe rose to international fame after portraying Harry Potter in the film series based on books by J. K. Rowling. The story follows the young wizard and his friends Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley as they study at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and battle the dark wizard Lord Voldemort.
Released between 2001 and 2011, the Harry Potter films became one of the most successful and influential movie franchises worldwide.
