The Aryavarth Express Rajouri, March 2: The Indian Army’s Romeo Force of the Rashtriya Rifles organised a blood donation camp at Government Medical College Rajouri, contributing over 20 units of blood to strengthen the hospital’s reserves and assist patients in critical need.
The initiative was aimed at improving emergency preparedness and ensuring adequate blood availability during accidents and medical emergencies in the district.
Dr. Javed Iqbal, Deputy Medical Superintendent at GMC Rajouri, appreciated the Army’s continued support. “Whenever blood is required at GMC, Indian Army personnel respond promptly. Today, they donated 20 units, which will be available whenever needed,” he said.
Army officials stated that the blood donation drive reflects their commitment not only to national security but also to community welfare. They reiterated that extending assistance during emergencies remains a key aspect of their outreach efforts in the region.
Local resident Mohammad Azam Choudhary expressed gratitude, noting that Rajouri witnesses several accidents daily and blood shortages can pose serious challenges. He said the Army has consistently stepped in during emergencies to save lives, strengthening trust between the forces and the community.
Earlier, Romeo Force also organised a free veterinary camp under Operation Sadbhavana in remote hilly areas of the Dharhal block in Rajouri sector. The camp, held in Ujhan village, aimed to provide veterinary care in high-altitude regions where access to such services is limited due to difficult terrain and harsh weather.
Veterinary experts, including Dr. Wakar and Dr. Qurat Al, along with assistants, treated livestock brought by residents from Ujhan and nearby villages such as Malhut, Rakiban, Nadian, Kothran and Leeran. According to officials, 290 villagers — including 266 men and 24 women — benefited from the initiative.
The efforts underscore the humanitarian role played by the Indian Army in Jammu and Kashmir, reinforcing its engagement with and support for local communities.
