The Aryavarth Express New Delhi: BJP MP Sambit Patra on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, referring to him as “compromised chacha” amid the ongoing political exchange over allegations by the Congress that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was “compromised” in relation to the India-US interim trade arrangement.
Addressing a press conference in the national capital, Sambit Patra alleged that Nehru’s former private secretary, M.O. Mathai, had been described as an “American agent.” He further claimed that during the 1960s, agents of the Soviet intelligence agency KGB were present in the Prime Minister’s Office.
Sambit Patra alleged that both the CIA and the KGB had significant influence during Nehru’s tenure and claimed that sensitive documents were accessible to foreign powers. He questioned whether national security had been weakened at the time, allowing confidential information to be exposed.
The BJP leader also raised the issue of Gwadar port, stating that in 1958 the Sultan of Oman had offered the port to India, but Nehru declined. He argued that Gwadar has since gained strategic importance for China and Pakistan, and suggested that India is facing the consequences of that decision today.
In addition, Patra questioned alleged discussions during Nehru’s tenure regarding territorial matters, raising speculative concerns about possible external pressures or incentives. He said such issues should be addressed by the present Congress leadership.
Separately, Sambit Patra claimed that some social media users had posted messages alleging they were offered monetary incentives by Congress-linked individuals to create content critical of the World AI Summit. He said posts and reels circulating online purportedly showed offers ranging from ₹25,000 to ₹1.5 lakh, though no independent verification of the claims was provided.
There was no immediate response from the Congress party to Patra’s remarks.
