The Aryavarth Express Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh): As the investigation continues into the Lamborghini crash on Kanpur’s VIP Road, KK Mishra, father of alleged accused Shivam Mishra, on Tuesday refuted police claims that his son was driving the luxury car at the time of the accident, asserting that a hired driver was behind the wheel while Shivam was unwell.

Speaking to reporters outside Gwaltoli police station, Mishra said both Shivam and the driver were inside the vehicle and maintained that the matter should be established through investigation. He also claimed the car had developed technical issues a day before the accident.

“A driver and Shivam were in the car. I do not know who was driving; that will be investigated. There was a technical issue with the Lamborghini a day earlier, which was fixed by mechanics. The next day, Shivam and the driver took the car out for testing,” he said.

According to Mishra, Shivam became unconscious while returning from Civil Lines. He alleged that as the driver tried to check on Shivam, the vehicle slowed down and was hit by an autorickshaw. He further claimed that the car’s windows were locked, prompting security staff to break the glass to pull Shivam out.

“When Shivam started feeling unconscious, the driver removed one hand to check on him. The car slowed down and an autorickshaw hit it. The window was automatically locked, so our security staff broke the glass and took Shivam out,” he said.

Mishra added that Shivam was examined by a doctor after returning home and was later shifted to Delhi for further treatment. “He is still undergoing treatment in Delhi and is not in a condition to come to Kanpur. Doctors have said he may recover in the next two to three days,” he said.

Dismissing police assertions, Mishra said, “If the Police Commissioner says Shivam was driving, he is wrong. No one in our family consumes alcohol or any other substance.”

Meanwhile, Shivam Mishra’s lawyer, Dharmendra Singh Dharmu, also claimed that the vehicle was being driven by the hired driver, Mohan. Speaking to the lawyer said Mohan has filed an application to surrender in court and is seeking bail along with the release of the vehicle.

“The driver Mohan was driving the car. Both he and Shivam were inside the vehicle at the time of the accident. Shivam is hospitalised in Delhi after feeling dizzy and unconscious,” the lawyer said.

Earlier, Kanpur Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal confirmed that Shivam Mishra has been named in the FIR following the investigation. “Initially, his name was not included. It emerged during the probe, and based on evidence, including CCTV footage, we are satisfied that Shivam Mishra was driving the vehicle,” the Commissioner said.

He added that Shivam’s father has been issued a notice and will participate in the investigation. Clarifying the extent of injuries, the Commissioner said only one person sustained injuries and that they were minor. He also confirmed that the Lamborghini involved in the incident has been seized.

The accident occurred near Jhula Park Crossing on Sunday afternoon when the Lamborghini allegedly rammed into an autorickshaw, a bullet motorcycle and a pole. Eyewitnesses claimed the car was speeding and alleged that bouncers accompanying the occupants removed a person from the vehicle immediately after the crash.

The case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, including Sections 281, 125(a), 125(b) and 324(4). The investigation has been assigned to Sub-Inspector Dinesh Kumar.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Kanpur) Atul Kumar Srivastava said no arrests have been made so far. “The injured have been taken to hospital. A case has been registered and a thorough investigation is underway. Action will be taken based on the facts that emerge,” he told.
