Dehradun (Uttarakhand): Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Thursday chaired a review meeting at Manthan Sabhagar, State Forest Headquarters, to assess and accelerate the implementation of development works and government schemes in Dehradun district.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister reviewed the progress of ongoing projects and directed officials to ensure timely and effective execution of development initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure and public services in the district.

Earlier on Wednesday, CM Dhami participated in a seminar titled “Fortifying the Himalayas – A Proactive Military-Civil Fusion Strategy in the Middle Sector” at the RS Auditorium, Clement Town, Dehradun. Addressing the gathering, he emphasised that national defence is a shared responsibility and highlighted the state government’s focus on development and infrastructure in border areas to strengthen them socially, economically and strategically.

“I believe that defending the nation is not solely the responsibility of the armed forces, but a duty for all of us. The citizens living in border areas have fulfilled this responsibility admirably time and again. For this reason, focused development has been undertaken in these regions,” the Chief Minister said.

He added that several initiatives are being implemented to empower border areas, including the provision of basic amenities, improved connectivity, and expansion of road networks. “These efforts have not only eased the movement of people but have also strengthened these regions from a tourism, trade, economic and strategic perspective,” he noted.

Meanwhile, the 22nd meeting of the Uttarakhand State Wildlife Board was held at the Secretariat a day earlier under the chairmanship of CM Dhami. Expressing concern over the rising incidents of human-wildlife conflict, the Chief Minister directed officials to adopt more effective control measures.

He stressed the need for heightened vigilance in areas affected by bears, leopards, tigers and elephants, and instructed the Forest Department and district administration to establish a joint monitoring mechanism. CM Dhami also directed that regular patrolling, digital surveillance and early-warning systems remain fully operational in sensitive zones.

Further, he ordered the mandatory installation of protective measures such as solar fencing, bio-fencing, honey bee fencing and watchtowers in affected villages. He also asked officials to organise awareness programmes to educate rural communities on safety measures and to ensure that Rapid Response Teams remain continuously active.
