Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir): A cold wave continued to grip the Kashmir Valley on Monday, with a thin layer of fog enveloping Srinagar and reducing visibility across the city. Iconic locations, including Dal Lake, remained shrouded in mist as chilly conditions prevailed throughout the region. Despite the cold weather, tourists were seen moving around the city and enjoying its winter charm.

Visitors said the scenic beauty of Srinagar remained captivating even in the harsh weather. A tourist shared that she enjoyed the Shikara ride on Dal Lake and local cuisine, adding that the experience was memorable despite the intense cold.

Meanwhile, fresh snowfall in Bhaderwah in Doda district has led to a noticeable increase in tourist footfall. Snow-covered landscapes have turned the area into a major attraction, prompting authorities to strengthen security and make necessary arrangements to ensure the safety and comfort of visitors during the winter season.

Tourist Dharmendra Sharma from Lucknow praised the arrangements, crediting the Indian Army for ensuring a safe and enjoyable visit. He said visitors were able to play in the snow and enjoy the surroundings without worry, encouraging others to visit the region during the winter period.

In Poonch district, heavy snowfall continued to disrupt normal movement, particularly along the Mughal Road. Authorities launched snow clearance operations on a war footing, deploying machinery to remove snow and restore connectivity on the strategic route amid challenging weather conditions.

Earlier, on January 1, Jammu and Kashmir authorities had heightened security around Dal Lake to ensure the safety of residents and tourists during New Year celebrations. Additional police personnel were deployed, checkpoints were set up, and surveillance was enhanced through increased patrolling and CCTV monitoring.

While the cold wave persists, snowfall in regions like Bhaderwah has added to the winter appeal of Jammu and Kashmir, continuing to draw tourists from across the country and highlighting the region’s seasonal charm.
