Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said he had an insightful interaction with leading economists and experts, during which discussions focused on “Aatmanirbharta and Structural Transformation: Agenda for Viksit Bharat.”
Sharing details in a social media post, the Prime Minister said the interaction helped him understand expert perspectives on India’s development roadmap. He noted that economists and specialists offered valuable inputs on strengthening self-reliance and accelerating structural transformation in the economy as part of the vision for a developed India.
“Had an insightful interaction with economists and experts yesterday. They shared valuable perspectives relating to the theme of ‘Aatmanirbharta and Structural Transformation: Agenda for Viksit Bharat,’” PM Modi said.
The interaction took place a day after Prime Minister Modi chaired a pre-Budget meeting with leading economists in New Delhi. The meeting was attended by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Suman Bery, and other eminent economists. Discussions centred on key priorities and suggestions for the upcoming Union Budget.
Earlier, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman conducted 10 rounds of pre-Budget consultations as part of preparations for the Union Budget 2026–27. These consultations involved experts and representatives from various sectors, including agriculture, MSMEs, capital markets, manufacturing, services, and technology.
The consultation series began with economists, followed by farmer organisations and agricultural economists. Subsequent meetings included stakeholders from MSMEs, capital markets, startups, manufacturing, BFSI, information technology, tourism and hospitality, and concluded with trade unions and labour organisations.
During these discussions, participants shared their recommendations, concerns, and expectations for the forthcoming Budget, with a focus on economic growth, job creation, investment, technological progress, industrial competitiveness, financial stability, labour welfare, and sustainable development.
The Union Budget is traditionally presented on February 1 each year, and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is expected to present the Union Budget for 2026–27 on February 1. Meanwhile, the Government of India has also invited suggestions from the general public to help shape policies and proposals for the upcoming Budget.
