Hyderabad (Telangana): The Telangana government has reorganised the state’s police administration by creating four new Police Commissionerates, with Bhongir district being excluded from the commissionerate system and designated as a separate police unit.
The move aligns with the recent reorganisation of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and the proposed Future City, aimed at improving governance and service delivery in the rapidly expanding urban region.
According to an official release, the restructuring follows the unveiling of the Telangana Rising 2047 Vision Document at the Telangana Rising Global Summit on December 9. The vision outlines the state’s roadmap to becoming a USD 3 trillion economy by 2047 and divides Telangana into CURE, PURE, and RARE regions, each with a tailored development strategy.
As part of the Core Urban Region (CURE), 27 municipalities within the Outer Ring Road (ORR) have been merged into the GHMC. The expanded civic body has been reorganised into 12 zones, 60 circles, and 300 wards, with other government departments, including the police, being restructured on similar lines.
To strengthen law and order, enhance crime control, and improve public service delivery, the police setup has been reorganised into four commissionerates. The earlier three commissionerates have been restructured, resulting in the formation of Hyderabad, Cyberabad, Malkajgiri, and Future City Commissionerates.
The Hyderabad Commissionerate will cover key areas such as the State Assembly, Secretariat, Begumpet, Shamshabad Airport, and Budvel High Court. The Cyberabad Commissionerate will include major IT and industrial hubs, including Gachibowli, the Financial District, Nanakramguda, Madhapur, Raidurg, Patancheru, Genome Valley, RC Puram, and Ameenpur.
The Rachakonda Commissionerate has been reorganised to create the new Malkajgiri Commissionerate, which will have jurisdiction over areas such as Keesara, Shamirpet, Quthbullapur, and Kompally. Bhongir, previously under Rachakonda, has been carved out as a separate police unit, with a Superintendent of Police to be appointed for Yadadri Bhongir district.
Additionally, a new commissionerate has been established for the fast-developing Future City, covering areas including Chevella, Moinabad, Shankarpally, Maheshwaram, and Ibrahimpatnam.
The government has issued orders appointing Police Commissioners for the four newly constituted commissionerates, along with an SP for Yadadri Bhongir district.
