Katra (Jammu and Kashmir): A large influx of pilgrims has been witnessed in Katra ahead of the New Year, as thousands arrive to seek blessings at the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine and conclude the year on a spiritual note.

The hill shrine and surrounding areas are abuzz with devotion and enthusiasm, with pilgrims from across the country gathering to begin the New Year with prayers. Many devotees expressed joy and optimism as they embarked on the Vaishno Devi Yatra, describing the atmosphere as energetic and uplifting.

One devotee shared, “I am very excited, emotional, and happy. I hope the end of this year marks a positive beginning for the new one. The weather here is wonderful, very different from Mumbai, and we are really enjoying it. I am starting the yatra with a lot of positivity and energy.”

In view of the anticipated heavy rush on December 31 and during the New Year, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Reasi, Paramvir Singh, conducted a comprehensive security review meeting at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan on Sunday. The meeting focused on ensuring the safety and smooth movement of pilgrims during the peak period.

The SSP directed all concerned officers and agencies to remain alert and proactive, with special emphasis on effective crowd management to prevent untoward incidents such as stampedes. Instructions were issued to regulate movement at sensitive points in and around the Bhawan area and to ensure continuous monitoring through the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) for real-time coordination and quick response.

Meanwhile, in neighbouring Udhampur, police have also stepped up security and issued safety guidelines ahead of New Year celebrations. Authorities cautioned that while celebrations are encouraged, there will be zero tolerance for dangerous driving, stunts, or the use of illegal substances.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Headquarters, Udhampur, Prehlad Kumar, said that arrangements have been strengthened in coordination with the CRPF, Army, district police, and ITBP. He urged tourists to follow safety norms and celebrate responsibly.

Officials across departments assured full cooperation and preparedness to ensure a safe, secure, and hassle-free pilgrimage for devotees during the festive and peak travel period.
