New Delhi [India], December 26: The inauguration of Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) was marked by a powerful tribute to national service, with recipients of India’s highest gallantry award placed at the heart of the opening proceedings. Param Vir Chakra awardees Honorary Captain Bana Singh and Major Sanjay Kumar were part of the inaugural moment, lending the occasion a deep sense of duty, sacrifice, and national pride.
Ahead of the commencement of commercial operations, the two war heroes toured the airport facilities, symbolising the inclusion of those who have served the nation in a milestone of national importance. Their presence underscored an effort to ground the airport’s launch in service and contribution rather than ceremonial grandeur.
Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani was also present, alongside airport officials and staff. The proceedings remained low-key, with an emphasis on shared participation instead of formal speeches or spectacle.
Reflecting on the experience, Major Sanjay Kumar said, “It was a good experience for us. This was the first time we saw the airport in this way. It was good to see such a large organisation and the Army together. Overall, it was a good day for everyone.”
Standing with Honorary Captain Bana Singh, Major Sanjay Kumar represented the enduring spirit of India’s armed forces. Their involvement resonated strongly with airport personnel, veterans, and staff, reinforcing the message that the nation’s progress is closely linked with the sacrifices of its defenders.
The inauguration remained deliberately understated, without a formal ceremony or public address, allowing the focus to remain on contribution over celebration. By placing Param Vir Chakra awardees at the centre of its opening moments, NMIA conveyed a clear message that India’s growth story moves forward alongside those who serve and protect the nation.
As Navi Mumbai International Airport begins operations, its opening stands as a symbol not only of modern infrastructure but also of respect for service to the country.
