Nalbari (Assam): Assam Police have arrested four people in connection with the vandalism of St. Mary’s English School in Nalbari on Christmas, officials said on Thursday.

According to police, the incident occurred on Wednesday when the accused entered the school premises and damaged Christmas decorations, street lights, plant pots and other property. Some items were also reportedly set on fire, with the act aimed at disrupting Christmas celebrations.

A case has been registered against the accused at the Belsor police station, and further investigation is underway.

The incident drew sharp political reactions, with Assam Pradesh Congress Committee President Gaurav Gogoi strongly condemning the vandalism. In a statement, Gogoi alleged that such acts were a result of what he termed the “politics of hatred” being promoted in the state. He urged the people of Assam not to fall prey to what he described as provocative actions by vested interests.

“This is a direct attack on the constitutional framework and another attempt to divide society,” Gogoi said.

Meanwhile, Christmas was celebrated across the country with enthusiasm and festive spirit. Cities were illuminated with lights, decorations and Christmas trees as people came together to mark the occasion with joy and harmony.

In Kolkata, large crowds gathered along Park Street, while festive scenes were also witnessed in Lucknow’s Hazratganj and at St. Mary’s Garrison Church in Jammu. In Manali, Mall Road turned lively with music, singing and dancing as people celebrated with family and friends.
