Bengaluru (Karnataka):
A 40-year-old former software engineer allegedly shot and killed his estranged wife, a bank official, near Magadi Road on Tuesday evening before surrendering at a local police station, police said.
The incident occurred on December 23 when 39-year-old Bhuvaneshwari, an Assistant Manager at the Union Bank of India’s Basaveshwarnagar branch, was attacked while returning home from work. She was rushed to Shanbagh Hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
Following the incident, her husband, Balamurugan, surrendered at the Magadi Road Police Station and confessed to the crime. Police have registered a murder case (Crime No. 310/2025 under Section 103) and taken the accused into custody.
According to investigators, the couple, who married in 2011 and have two children, had been living separately for the past 18 months due to ongoing marital discord. Bhuvaneshwari had shifted to Rajajinagar around six months ago to distance herself from her husband. Balamurugan, who previously worked as a software engineer at a firm in Whitefield, reportedly opposed her decision to seek a legal separation.
Police said the accused suspected his wife of having an extramarital relationship and had been attempting to locate her residence for several months. After identifying her address, he allegedly moved to the Cholurpalya area about four months ago to keep track of her movements. Tensions reportedly escalated after he received a divorce notice last week.
On Tuesday evening, between 6:30 pm and 7:00 pm, the accused allegedly intercepted Bhuvaneshwari as she was walking home and fired at her. Shortly after the incident, he presented himself at the police station and surrendered.
Police are currently investigating the source of the firearm used in the crime and examining other aspects of the case. Further investigation is underway.
