Mumbai (Maharashtra): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Ram Kadam on Thursday finally got a haircut after keeping his hair uncut for four years, marking progress in resolving the long-standing water scarcity issue in Ghatkopar West.
Kadam had taken a vow not to visit a barber until a permanent solution was found to the water problems faced by residents in his constituency. He said the beginning of key infrastructure work signaled fulfillment of that pledge.
According to the MLA, the project includes the construction of water tanks with a total storage capacity of over two crore litres, along with the connection of a new water pipeline from Bhandup. These measures are expected to significantly ease the water crisis in the area.
Kadam said, “Five years ago, I began thinking about how water could reach the hilly areas. I am happy that water tanks with a capacity of more than two crore litres will be built here, and the water pipeline from Bhandup has also been connected.”
He added that the water supply model adopted in Ghatkopar could serve as an example for other regions across the country and even globally.
Reacting to the resignation of Maharashtra minister Manikrao Kokate following his conviction in a house quota cheating case, Kadam said the judiciary’s decision must be respected. “The court’s verdict has to be honoured. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar have respected the judicial decision. Based on ethics, the minister has resigned,” he said.
On the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, Kadam said decisions regarding candidates would be taken by party leadership at the appropriate time. “Ground-level MLAs like us are fully prepared. Our flag will fly over the Mumbai Municipal Corporation,” he added.
