New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will undertake a bilateral visit to Jordan from December 15 to 17, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Friday. This will be PM Modi’s first-ever standalone visit to the West Asian nation.

During his stay, the Prime Minister is set to meet King Abdullah II to review the full spectrum of India–Jordan relations and exchange views on key regional developments. Both leaders are also expected to jointly address the India–Jordan Business Forum, aimed at boosting trade and investment opportunities.

PM Modi will additionally engage with the Indian community in Jordan, which the MEA described as vibrant and an important link between the two countries.

According to the MEA, India and Jordan share “warm and friendly” ties backed by strong leadership-level understanding. India is currently Jordan’s third-largest trading partner, with bilateral trade valued at $2.8 billion. Around 15 Indian government-linked companies operate in Jordan’s Qualified Industrial Zones, with investments totaling $500 million.

Connectivity between the two countries has also improved, with Royal Jordanian Airlines launching direct Amman–Mumbai flights, and plans underway to expand services to New Delhi. Jordan also offers visa-on-arrival facilities for Indian tourists.

The visit holds special significance as it coincides with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties. It is expected to deepen cooperation, explore fresh areas of collaboration, and reinforce the nations’ shared commitment to regional peace, security, and prosperity.

India and Jordan have cooperated closely in sectors such as education, culture, and pandemic response. In the past financial year (2024–25), Jordan utilized 37 ITEC training slots, 4 Special Executive Programme slots, and 5 ICCR scholarships. Following recent Foreign Office Consultations, India has increased the annual ITEC allocation for Jordan from 37 to 50 slots. A Jordanian diplomat also attended the 72nd Professional Course for Foreign Diplomats at the Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service in May 2025.
