New Delhi [India]: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Tuesday directed IndiGo to reduce its flight operations by 5% across all sectors after the airline failed to efficiently execute its approved winter schedule and reported a significant number of cancellations. IndiGo has been instructed to submit a revised operational schedule by 5 PM on December 10, 2025.

According to the DGCA notice, IndiGo had received approval for 15,014 departures per week, totaling 64,346 flights for November under the Winter Schedule 2025. However, operational data revealed the airline operated only 59,438 flights, while 951 flights were cancelled during the month.

The regulator added that IndiGo was granted a 6% schedule enhancement for Winter 2025 compared to the Summer 2025 schedule, with permission to operate using 403 aircraft. In contrast, IndiGo operated only 339 aircraft in October 2025 and 344 in November 2025.

Despite increasing departures by 9.66% over Winter 2024 and 6.05% over Summer 2025, the airline “has not demonstrated an ability to operate these schedules efficiently,” the notice stated.

As per the DGCA directive, IndiGo must now trim its schedule by 5% across sectors, focusing particularly on high-frequency, high-demand routes and avoiding single-flight operations on any given sector.

The order, issued with the approval of the Competent Authority, mandated:
“You are required to submit a revised schedule by 5 PM on 10th December 2025.”

Meanwhile, Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu is set to address the Lok Sabha at 12 PM today regarding the ongoing IndiGo crisis, a day after making a statement in the Rajya Sabha. The issue has gained urgency amid widespread delays and cancellations that have left passengers stranded at airports across the country.
