New Delhi: In a major breakthrough, the Delhi Police arrested a wanted member of the infamous Anil Chippi and Kala Jatheri gangs following an armed encounter in Dwarka.
The accused, identified as Vikas alias Bagga, a resident of Rohtak, Haryana, was apprehended after he opened fire on a police team that had laid a trap for him based on confidential intelligence received by the Special Staff of Dwarka.
According to officials, the police had received inputs that Vikas would arrive on a scooty at Mangespur Drain Patri near Dichaun-Hirankudana Road to meet an associate while carrying an illegal firearm, allegedly to commit a crime.
When the police team tried to intercept him, Vikas reportedly opened fire indiscriminately.
“The accused fired three rounds at the police party,” said DCP Ankit Singh (Dwarka). “One of the bullets struck the bulletproof jacket of Head Constable Sandeep, saving him from serious injury.”
The police responded with controlled fire, aiming at the accused’s leg. One of the bullets hit Vikas in the right leg, neutralizing him. He was then apprehended and taken to a hospital for treatment.
Investigations revealed that Vikas is a habitual offender with multiple serious cases registered against him. He has been involved in a murder case at PS Sampla, Rohtak, and an attempt to murder case in Haryana. Additionally, he is a key suspect in a robbery-cum-murder case registered at PS K.N. Katju Marg in Rohini, where he allegedly shot a man dead and stole his motorcycle.
Vikas had been absconding in this case until his arrest in the Dwarka encounter.
DCP Ankit Singh said further legal proceedings are underway and reaffirmed that the Delhi Police remains committed to its ‘No Guns, No Gangs’ campaign aimed at eliminating organized crime from the city.
