Latehar, Jharkhand: In a major success for security forces, nine active members of the Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP) — including zonal and sub-zonal commanders — surrendered before authorities in Latehar on Saturday.

According to a post by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on social media platform X, the surrender took place at the Latehar Superintendent of Police’s office in the presence of senior officials from the CRPF, Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), and Jharkhand Police.

Among the nine surrendered Naxals, five were carrying cash rewards on their heads. Security forces also seized a significant cache of arms and ammunition during the surrender, including 12 firearms (comprising 5 AK rifles, 3 SLRs, and 4 self-loading rifles), 26 magazines, and over 1,700 live cartridges.

This development comes just days after a large haul of arms and ammunition was recovered in Chhattisgarh. On August 30, security forces conducting an anti-Naxal operation in the Abujhmad region of Narayanpur district discovered multiple weapons caches believed to have been abandoned by Naxals.

Narayanpur SP Robinson Guria stated that the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Special Task Force (STF), and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) had jointly conducted the operation on August 24. “We recovered arms from 4-5 different locations, suggesting that Naxalites were dumping weapons while retreating,” he said.

In a related development, 30 Naxals also surrendered earlier this week in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district. According to state Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma, their surrender was the result of the government’s rehabilitation policy, the persistent efforts of security forces, and ongoing development initiatives in the region.

These back-to-back surrenders mark a significant blow to Naxal insurgent outfits across Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh, signaling a shift in ground realities in several conflict-affected regions.
