Bengaluru: Brigadier Rasid Enayathulla, AVSM, VSM (Retd), a decorated officer of the Dogra Regiment and one of the Army’s most respected veterans, passed away in Bengaluru on Sunday. He was 74.
Commissioned into the 16 Dogra in April 1973, Brigadier Enayathulla went on to command the 8 Dogra Regiment with distinction. Over a career spanning more than three decades, he served in multiple counterinsurgency operations in Jammu & Kashmir and the North East, where his calm leadership and professionalism earned him the admiration of both peers and subordinates.
Stellar Military Career
Throughout his service, Brigadier Enayathulla held several prestigious appointments in the Indian Army. He served as Head of the Training Team at the Officers Training Academy (OTA), Colonel MS to the GOCs of 4 Corps and 21 Corps, and later as Military Assistant to the Vice Chief of Army Staff (VCOAS) and subsequently to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General N. C. Vij.
His final posting was as Commandant of the CMP Centre & School in Bengaluru, where he superannuated in November 2005. In recognition of his outstanding service, he was awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM) and the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM).
Mentorship and Service Beyond Uniform
Even after retirement, Brigadier Enayathulla remained committed to nurturing the next generation of officers. As an Advisor to the SSB Sureshot Academy, he guided and mentored countless defence aspirants, leaving behind a lasting impact on young men and women aspiring to join the Armed Forces. His contributions to the academy were so significant that he was even recommended for the Shaurya Samman Award.
Tributes from Armed Forces Fraternity
His passing has drawn widespread tributes across the Armed Forces community. Among those paying their respects at his funeral in Bengaluru are General Nirmal Chander Vij (Retd), former Chief of the Army Staff, Lt Gen J. K. Mohanty (Retd), former Vice Chief of the Army Staff, and Maj Gen V. P. S. Bhakuni, VSM, CEO of SSB Sureshot Academy.
Speaking on his legacy, veterans described Brigadier Enayathulla as “a soldier’s soldier, mentor, and leader whose humility and courage left an indelible mark on everyone he worked with.”
Family and Legacy
He is survived by his wife and son, Lt Col Fhad Enayathulla. For his family, comrades, and the young cadets he inspired, Brigadier Enayathulla’s passing is an irreparable loss.
Brigadier Enayathulla will be remembered as a beacon of courage, humility, and selfless service to the nation.
