Cachar, Assam: In a major crackdown on narcotics trafficking, Assam Police seized 20,000 Yaba tablets and 216 grams of heroin during two separate operations in Cachar district on Monday evening. Five individuals have been arrested in connection with the case.

Cachar Superintendent of Police Numal Mahatta stated that the operations were launched based on credible intelligence inputs. The raids took place at Sonabarighat under Silchar police station and Hmarkhawlen under Lakhipur police station.

“Police recovered 18 soap cases containing approximately 216 grams of heroin and 20,000 Yaba tablets. Two vehicles used for transporting the drugs were also seized,” SP Mahatta said.

The accused have been identified as Ayesha Begum Chaudhary, Muslima Begum Mazumder, Jalal Ahmed Chaudhary, Rabijul Ali Chaudhary, and Lalpu Singsit. According to police, the seized narcotics are estimated to be worth around ₹7 crore in the black market.

Drug detection kits confirmed the presence of heroin and methamphetamine. All seizures were made in the presence of independent witnesses, and further investigations are underway.

In a separate incident on July 21, Cachar Police also recovered three gold biscuits weighing approximately 439 grams and arrested one person, Khamneu Munluah (32), from Churachandpur district of Manipur. The gold was being smuggled from Manipur and was meant to be delivered near ISBT, Silchar.

The seizure was made near Ramnagar bypass under the jurisdiction of Silchar police station, following specific intelligence inputs.
