Guwahati: Train services on the Lumding-Badarpur Hill section have been fully restored by the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) following a landslide on Thursday that disrupted operations between Dihakho and Mupa stations at KM 51/2-3.

The landslide had blocked the tracks with large boulders and debris, halting train movement through the section. However, prompt and continuous restoration work led to the early resumption of services.

“Train operations resumed this morning at around 09:42 hrs. The first train to pass through the restored section was Train No. 12520 (Agartala–Lokmanya Tilak Terminus) Express,” said Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of NFR.

Senior railway officials had immediately reached the site, overseeing round-the-clock efforts to clear the debris and ensure track safety. Help desks at Guwahati, Lumding, Silchar, Badarpur, and Agartala remained operational throughout the disruption, providing regular updates and assistance to passengers. Food and water were distributed to those stranded due to the incident.

Sharma added that all trains previously delayed or rescheduled due to the landslide have now resumed their scheduled journeys. Passengers are advised to use official railway enquiry services for the latest train running information.

In a related development, NFR recently introduced new coaches to enhance passenger comfort. On June 23, a ‘Vistadome coach’ was added to two key train services, while an additional AC 3-tier coach was attached to another.

One notable upgrade is the permanent inclusion of a Vistadome coach in the New Jalpaiguri Junction–Howrah Junction Shatabdi Express, which runs six days a week. The move aims to improve the travel experience for passengers, especially those travelling through scenic landscapes. The train now operates with a total of 15 coaches.

“These initiatives reflect NFR’s commitment to enhancing passenger services, addressing growing demand, and elevating the overall quality of travel across the network,” Sharma stated.
