New Delhi: India is all set to mark the 11th International Day of Yoga on June 21, 2025, with the theme “Yoga for One Earth, One Health”, underscoring the deep connections between individual well-being, planetary health, and sustainable living.

A massive nationwide celebration is being coordinated, with Yoga Sangam — the central event — featuring a synchronised mass yoga demonstration based on the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP). This coordinated session will take place at over 1 lakh locations across the country from 6:30 AM to 7:45 AM. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the national-level event from Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, uniting millions in the shared practice of yoga.

Recognised globally as a gift from ancient Indian tradition, yoga has gained prominence as a trusted means to enhance physical, mental, and emotional health. Derived from the Sanskrit word ‘yuj’, meaning “to join” or “to unite”, yoga symbolises the harmony of mind and body, balance between human and nature, and the integration of thought and action.

The United Nations officially recognised June 21 as the International Day of Yoga in 2014, following a proposal by India. Endorsed by a record 175 member states, the date was selected as it coincides with the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere — a day rich in significance across various cultures.

Since its global inception in 2015, India has led Yoga Day celebrations under the Ministry of AYUSH, with robust support from state governments, international missions, and UN agencies. Participation has grown exponentially — from 9.59 crore people in 2018 to an estimated 24.53 crore participants worldwide in 2024, establishing Yoga Day as a true global wellness movement.

The official Yoga Day logo symbolises this unity: folded hands represent the union of individual and universal consciousness; brown leaves denote the Earth, green for Nature, blue for Water, brightness for Fire, and the Sun as a symbol of life energy. Together, they reflect yoga’s core message of peace, health, and harmony for humanity.

The 2025 theme, “Yoga for One Earth, One Health”, resonates with India’s G20 presidency vision — “One Earth, One Family, One Future” — and calls attention to the integrated approach needed to achieve global well-being.

The observance of Yoga Day this year also includes the prestigious PM Yoga Awards, honouring individuals and institutions for outstanding contributions to the promotion and practice of yoga.

Far beyond a one-day event, the International Day of Yoga continues to embody India’s commitment to holistic health, environmental balance, and global unity through mindful living.
