Gandhinagar: Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi on Monday confirmed that DNA identification for 125 victims of the tragic Air India plane crash has been completed, with the families of 124 of the deceased already contacted. So far, the mortal remains of 83 victims have been handed over to their families.

Sanghavi visited the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Gandhinagar, where the DNA testing is being carried out by dedicated teams from the FSL and the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU). He commended the tireless work of the forensic teams, saying, “For several days now, FSL and NFSU teams have been working around the clock. As of 10:58 p.m., DNA of 131 victims had been matched, and six more DNA certificates are expected to be sent to Civil Hospital shortly.”

He highlighted that senior officials from both the police and FSL have been closely monitoring the identification process, staying on-site late into the night to ensure swift progress.

The Gujarat government has also been working in coordination with Ahmedabad’s Civil Hospital to facilitate smooth communication between officials and the families of the victims.

Dr Rakesh Joshi, Superintendent of the Civil Hospital, reported that DNA verification has been completed for 119 victims so far, with more results expected soon. “We are receiving panic calls as people wait for news. The process is ongoing, and results will continue to come in,” he said. He also mentioned that the mortal remains of 14 more victims are scheduled to be handed over to their families by Tuesday morning.

The Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, en route to London, tragically crashed into a hostel complex shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad on June 12. The crash claimed the lives of 241 passengers and crew members, including former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.
