Shillong— The mysterious death of Indore resident Raja Raghuvanshi, who was on his honeymoon in Meghalaya, has taken a grim turn as a post-mortem report reveals he suffered two fatal head injuries inflicted by a sharp cutting weapon. This was confirmed by Special Investigation Team (SIT) Chief Herbert Pyniaid Kharkongor.

Raja had travelled to Meghalaya with his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, but went missing during the trip. His body was later found in the region, prompting a high-profile murder investigation that has since captivated national attention.

As part of the ongoing probe, Meghalaya Police have arrested three suspects—Vishal Chauhan, Raj Kushwaha, and Akash Rajput. All three are being brought to Shillong on transit remand to face further investigation.

Sonam Raghuvanshi, Raja’s wife, is also a key suspect. She surrendered to police in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, and is expected to be formally arrested soon. “Our team is about to reach Ghazipur to complete the arrest and bring Sonam to Shillong on transit remand,” said SIT Chief Kharkongor.

The SIT, which includes experienced officers, has been operating under difficult terrain and weather conditions in the state. Despite the challenges, authorities were able to locate Raja’s body, file a murder case, and swiftly initiate arrests.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the couple may have had relationship issues, though the precise motive behind the murder remains under investigation.

A senior official from Uttar Pradesh Police said Sonam was found near a roadside eatery along the Varanasi-Ghazipur highway before turning herself in to local authorities.

The case has sent shockwaves across the country, not only for its brutality but also because it unfolded during what was meant to be a celebratory honeymoon trip for the newlyweds.
