New Delhi: India’s active COVID-19 caseload has crossed the 1,000-mark, with 1,009 active cases reported across the country, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. This includes 752 new cases recently confirmed.

Kerala currently accounts for the highest number of active cases, with 430 infections. Other states reporting significant numbers include Maharashtra (209), Delhi (104), Gujarat (83), and Karnataka (47).

In a related development, a 21-year-old COVID-19 patient from Mumbra died at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Kalwa Hospital in Thane, where he had been admitted on May 22.

On Saturday, Union Health Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava conducted a review of the emerging COVID-19 situation, particularly in states such as Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Karnataka.

Health officials noted that the majority of reported cases are mild and being managed at home. The Health Ministry, in collaboration with the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), continues to actively monitor the situation.

While COVID-19 is now largely treated as a common viral infection, the Health Ministry advises the public to maintain basic precautions such as hand hygiene, wearing masks in crowded places, and avoiding unnecessary gatherings.
