New Delhi: A suspected espionage operation linked to Pakistan has been uncovered in Haryana, resulting in the arrest of a man named Mohammad Tarif in the Nuh district. This marks the second such arrest in Nuh within two days, as authorities intensify efforts to dismantle an alleged spy network operating in the region.

Tarif, a resident of Kangarka village under the jurisdiction of Taoru police station, has been taken into custody on charges of spying for Pakistan. According to police sources, a case has been registered against him along with two Pakistani nationals—Asif Baloch, an official at the Pakistan High Commission, and another individual identified as Jafar.

The investigation is being conducted under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Official Secrets Act of 1923, and laws related to sedition. Authorities have seized a mobile phone from Tarif and continue to interrogate him for further leads.

In a recorded video confession, Tarif admitted to repeated visits to Pakistan and revealed interactions with officials from the Pakistani embassy in India. He claimed that during his visa application process in 2018, he was asked by an embassy official to provide two new SIM cards in exchange for visa approval. He stated that after returning from Pakistan, the same official contacted him with a proposal to refer others seeking visas, sharing financial gains from the process.

The alleged espionage deepened in 2024, according to Tarif’s confession, when he was contacted again and introduced to a second Pakistani official named Jafar. Tarif claimed that he was offered large sums of money in exchange for sensitive information, specifically being instructed to visit the Sirsa Air Force Station and capture photos and videos.

This arrest follows the earlier detention of Armaan, a resident of Rajaka village in Nuh, on similar charges. Authorities believe that a broader network may be at play and are expanding their probe accordingly.

In recent developments, other individuals—including Jyoti Malhotra from Hisar—have also come under the radar for allegedly sharing confidential information and maintaining continuous contact with Pakistani nationals.

The investigation remains ongoing.
