Amritsar: Amritsar Airport has been completely shut down until further notice following heightened security measures implemented after the Indian Armed Forces launched Operation Sindoor in response to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam. The shutdown comes as part of a broader security directive affecting multiple airports across northern India.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP-2) Sirivennela confirmed that 21 airports in North and North-Western India will remain closed until 5:29 AM IST on May 10. “We received instructions that all flights must be cancelled and the airport closed. The entire airport is now shut down until further notice,” she stated.

The closures follow India’s targeted strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK), with authorities placing several regions on high alert.

Airlines have responded swiftly to the directive. SpiceJet announced the suspension of its flight operations to and from six northern cities — Amritsar, Leh, Srinagar, Jammu, Kandla, and Dharamshala — effective immediately and continuing until May 10. The airline issued a travel advisory on social media, alerting passengers about the temporary service disruption.

IndiGo also cancelled flights in 11 cities, including Srinagar, Jammu, Amritsar, Leh, Chandigarh, Dharamshala, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Gwalior, Kishangarh, and Rajkot. The airline cited compliance with directives from aviation authorities regarding the security situation.

Meanwhile, Delhi Airport has issued an advisory for travellers, urging them to stay updated on their flight status amid the evolving security scenario.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, and further updates are expected as the security review continues.
