New Delhi: IndiGo Airlines has announced the cancellation of all flight operations to and from 11 cities across northern, northwestern, and central India until 5:29 am IST on May 10, following airport closures mandated by aviation authorities in the aftermath of the Indian Armed Forces’ retaliatory ‘Operation Sindoor’.

In a travel advisory posted on X (formerly Twitter), IndiGo stated that flights to and from Srinagar, Jammu, Amritsar, Leh, Chandigarh, Dharamshala, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Gwalior, Kishangarh, and Rajkot have been suspended until the aforementioned time.

“Following aviation directives, flights to/from these cities remain cancelled until 10 May, 0529 hrs,” the airline confirmed in its official statement. IndiGo also cautioned passengers to verify their flight status before heading to the airport, emphasising that further schedule changes in other sectors may also be made depending on how the situation evolves.

Amid the travel disruptions, the All Ladakh Hotel and Guest House Association (ALHGHA) has stepped in to support affected travellers. In a press release, ALHGHA announced it would offer complimentary accommodation to all tourists stranded in Ladakh due to the cancellations. The initiative ensures that guests can stay in their current hotels free of charge until flights resume.

“In response to the ongoing disruption of flights from Ladakh, we have taken a unified step to support tourists currently stranded in the region,” the ALHGHA president stated. “Guests whose outbound flights have been cancelled due to the current situation will be provided complimentary stays at the same hotels.”

The disruption comes following India’s military strike on nine terror camps under Operation Sindoor, launched in retaliation for the deadly Pahalgam attack. The precision strikes targeted four locations in Pakistan — Bahawalpur, Muridke, Sarjal, and Mehmoona Joya — and five in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). Officials reported that no civilian casualties or damage to military infrastructure occurred during the operation.

The hospitality gesture drew widespread praise, including from BJP MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, who lauded the move on social media: “A true reflection of Ladakh’s spirit of hospitality and patriotism. Atithi Devo Bhava! Bharat Mata Ki Jai!”

Other airlines, including Air India and SpiceJet, have also suspended flights to several affected cities, citing aviation authority guidelines. Air India confirmed cancellations to and from Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh, and Rajkot, with affected passengers eligible for free rescheduling or full refunds.

Passengers are advised to stay updated with airline advisories and flight status updates as the situation continues to unfold.
