New Delhi: Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa has commended the Akshay Kumar-starrer Kesari Chapter 2 for its powerful portrayal of a crucial yet lesser-known chapter in India’s freedom struggle. The film, which delves into the aftermath of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, was screened at an exclusive event in the capital on Tuesday.

Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, Kesari Chapter 2 features Akshay Kumar as C. Sankaran Nair, the prominent lawyer who famously challenged General Dyer and the British establishment in court. R. Madhavan stars opposite him as Neville McKinley, the British Crown’s defence lawyer, setting the stage for a gripping courtroom battle rooted in historical events.

Sirsa, who attended the screening, urged members of the Congress party to watch the film. “I invite everyone in Congress to watch this movie. They will understand the injustice they have done by erasing the legacy of C. Sankaran Nair from our history,” he said, emphasising the film’s role in reviving important national narratives.

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri also praised the film, calling it a source of inspiration for the youth. This film shows how courageous individuals stood firm during the most difficult times. “These are the stories that shaped our freedom and continue to shape our identity as a nation today,” Puri remarked. He added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had even referenced the movie during his speech in Hisar, highlighting its national significance.

Puri lauded the efforts of the filmmakers for portraying a “transformational period” in Indian history with the help of acclaimed actors like Akshay Kumar and R. Madhavan. “This film brings history out of textbooks and onto the big screen, making it accessible and engaging for the masses,” he said.

The Delhi screening was attended by several senior BJP leaders, including Kapil Mishra and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. Viewers were reminded to respect copyright laws and avoid recording the film, which is set for a nationwide release on April 18.

Earlier in the day, Akshay Kumar also visited the Delhi Secretariat, adding to the buzz surrounding the film’s upcoming release.

Following the success of Kesari (2019), which portrayed the valiant stand of 21 Sikh soldiers during the Battle of Saragarhi, Kesari Chapter 2 aims to honour the relentless spirit of India’s freedom fighters. This sequel shifts the focus to the courtroom and the legacy of justice pursued by individuals like C. Sankaran Nair in the face of colonial oppression.
