Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Sunday announced the state’s ambitious plan to boost milk production by 20%, emphasising its strong potential in the dairy sector. Speaking at the State Level Cooperative Conference in Bhopal, Yadav highlighted the state government’s commitment to strengthening the rural economy through initiatives like the Kamdhenu Gau Palan Yojana, launched on the birth anniversary of Dr B.R. Ambedkar.

“I come from a family that relied on milk production.” It makes me proud to see our government working to advance this vital industry,” CM Yadav said. “With a current milk production rate of 9%, our goal is to increase it by at least 20%.”

A key feature of the Kamdhenu scheme includes the direct procurement of cow milk from farmers by the state government, aiming to increase income for rural dairy farmers.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who attended the event, urged the state to expand dairy infrastructure to cover at least 50% of villages. “If financial support is needed, it will be provided,” he assured. Shah reaffirmed the central government’s commitment to farmers, stating, “Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the Government of India stands firmly with Madhya Pradesh’s farmers.”

During the conference, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and the Madhya Pradesh Dairy Federation, marking a significant step towards modernising and expanding the dairy sector in the state.
