Agency (New Delhi): Following the recent Lok Sabha election results, the Congress party has posed four key questions to Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of his oath-taking ceremony. Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh questioned whether Modi will fulfill his promises made to Andhra Pradesh and Bihar.
In a video shared on X, Ramesh referred to the upcoming Modi government as the “Modi 1/3 government,” and posed four questions to the Prime Minister. “Our four questions to the one-third Prime Minister who is going to be elected. 1. On 30 April 2014, in the holy city of Tirupati, you promised to give special status to Andhra Pradesh. Will that promise be fulfilled now? 2. Will you stop the privatization of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant now? 3. Will you fulfill your 2014 election promise and the ten-year-old demand of your ally Nitish Kumar by giving special state status to Bihar? 4. Do you promise to conduct a caste census in the entire country like Bihar?” Ramesh posted on X.
These questions come in the wake of the BJP falling short of the 272-seat majority mark in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. However, with support from Naidu’s TDP and Nitish Kumar’s JD(U), which won 16 and 12 seats respectively, the NDA has crossed the halfway mark, securing 293 seats in total.
The Congress showed significant improvement in the recent elections, securing 99 seats compared to 52 in 2019. The total tally for the INDIA bloc stands at 234 seats. Narendra Modi is expected to take oath as Prime Minister for the third consecutive term on June 9, according to sources.
Earlier speculation suggested that the swearing-in ceremony for the new NDA government led by Modi would take place on Saturday. On Wednesday, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) unanimously passed a resolution to elect Modi as their leader for the third time during a crucial meeting held at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Delhi.
The NDA leaders praised Modi’s leadership and the nation’s progress under his guidance over the past decade. Following the recommendation of the Union Cabinet, President Droupadi Murmu dissolved the 17th Lok Sabha on Wednesday.
As per the results announced by the Election Commission of India, the BJP won 240 seats. With allies, including TDP and JD(U), the NDA secured a total of 293 seats, ensuring a majority.
