Agency (New Delhi): Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for focusing heavily on divisive issues during the campaign for the Lok Sabha elections. Kharge claimed that Modi mentioned ‘mandir-masjid’ and related topics 421 times, despite the Election Commission’s directive against appealing for votes on caste and religious lines.
Addressing a press conference on the last day of campaigning for the final phase of the Lok Sabha elections, Kharge noted that Modi mentioned the Congress party 232 times and his own name 758 times in his speeches over the past 15 days. However, he did not address the issue of unemployment even once.
Kharge expressed confidence that the INDIA bloc will form the next government with a clear majority, promising an inclusive and nationalistic administration. “We are confident that people will give a mandate for an alternative government on 4 June,” he stated. Kharge also warned that another term for the current government could threaten democracy.
Additionally, Kharge mocked Modi’s comment in an interview about Mahatma Gandhi’s global recognition only after Richard Attenborough’s 1982 film, suggesting that the Prime Minister may lack adequate knowledge about Gandhi, who is internationally renowned.
