Agency(Andhra Pradesh): Chandra Sekhar, the Telugu Desam Party’s (TDP) candidate for the Guntur Lok Sabha seat in Andhra Pradesh, has become a focal point in the current electoral campaign after declaring family assets totaling Rs 5,785 crore. This revelation in his election affidavit positions him among the wealthiest contenders in the race.
Chandra Sekhar reported that his personal assets amount to Rs 2,448.72 crore, while his wife, Sriratna Koneru, possesses assets worth Rs 2,343.78 crore. Their children’s assets nearly reach Rs 1,000 crore. Despite this vast wealth, the family maintains liabilities amounting to Rs 1,138 crore to JP Morgan Chase Bank of USA, primarily as a line of credit.
His remarkable journey from Burripalem village to becoming a physician teacher at Johns Hopkins University – Sinai Hospital, and founding UWorld, an online learning platform, outlines his diverse professional background. Chandra Sekhar, who finished his MBBS at NTR University of Health Sciences in Vijayawada in 1999, has also ranked impressively in one of India’s most competitive medical entrance exams, the EAMCET.
Active in the TDP’s NRI wing since 2010, Chandra Sekhar has been instrumental in supporting various party welfare initiatives. Although he initially sought to contest from the Narasaraopet segment in 2014, he was not allotted a ticket due to internal party dynamics and is now set to compete against YSR Congress Party’s K Venkata Rosaiah.
With substantial investments in several US-based firms and ownership of luxury vehicles including a Rolls Royce Ghost, Mercedes Benz, and Tesla, Chandra Sekhar’s wealth and background are likely to be significant factors in his electoral appeal as the Andhra Pradesh polls progress.
