Agency(Arunachal Pradesh): The Congress party has rebuked the BJP-led government for what it deems as a feeble response to China’s purported renaming of 30 locations in Arunachal Pradesh. They criticize the government’s apparent reticence on Chinese intrusions while highlighting their vocal stance on other security matters.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar’s statement on Monday rejecting China’s actions as “senseless” and affirming Arunachal Pradesh’s integral status within India was termed “strange” by Congress senior spokesperson Manish Tewari. Tewari asserts that such a response reflects governmental weakness.
Tewari questions the extent of land under China’s control post-May 2020 and criticizes the government’s lack of action in addressing this issue directly. He condemns the government’s approach of deflecting and deceiving on the matter.
The Congress leader admonishes the ruling party for refraining from discussing China’s aggression while being vocal about other security concerns like Katchatheevu. He denounces what he perceives as a “disinformation campaign” against former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi regarding the Katchatheevu island issue.
Tewari accuses the government of consistently displaying a “weak-kneed” approach towards China, citing the lack of a response or clarification even after about four years of the Galwan Valley incident. He highlights a research paper presented by the then SSP Leh in January 2023, which allegedly revealed India’s lack of access to 26 patrolling points under Chinese occupation.
Despite opposition parties raising concerns about Chinese intrusions in parliament, Tewari notes the silence from the prime minister and foreign minister on the issue. He concludes that this silence indicates the government’s indifference towards India’s unity and integrity.
