Guna (Madhya Pradesh): Two individuals have been arrested in Guna after a video showing a man and woman engaging in obscene acts on the premises of the Bhais Bhuja Devi temple went viral on social media. Police registered an FIR under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and took swift action following public outrage.
According to the Guna Superintendent of Police (SP), local police were alerted after the video surfaced online. “The video showed the two in a compromising position within the temple premises. An FIR was immediately registered under BNS Sections 296 and 299. As the matter involved religious sentiments, two teams were formed to trace the accused. They scanned multiple CCTV cameras and worked through the night to identify and arrest them,” the SP said.
BNS Section 296 pertains to obscene acts likely to cause public annoyance, while Section 299 deals with deliberate acts intended to insult religion or hurt religious sentiments.
When asked whether the act was carried out intentionally to gain online attention, the SP said the investigation is still underway and any such findings will be shared with the public as they emerge.
