Narayanpur, Chhattisgarh: In a significant development in the fight against Naxalism, twelve Naxals — including five women — surrendered to the police in Chhattisgarh‘s Narayanpur district. The surrendered individuals collectively carried a bounty of ₹18 lakh on their heads.

According to Narayanpur Superintendent of Police Robinson Guria, two of the surrendered were members of the Naxal outfit’s East Bastar and Indravati divisions and held the position of Local Operating Squad (LOS) members. One of them was part of the notorious Platoon 16, whose commander was recently neutralised in a security operation.

“These Naxals surrendered due to the government’s surrender and rehabilitation policy and the mounting pressure from continuous anti-Naxal operations,” said SP Guria.

Under the state government’s policy, each surrendered Naxal is provided ₹50,000 and is issued identification documents to ensure access to various government welfare schemes.

So far in 2025, a total of 171 Naxals — including several senior cadres — have surrendered in the region, indicating the growing impact of sustained operations and outreach initiatives by security forces.

In a related development earlier this week, two Naxals were killed in an encounter in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district. Acting on intelligence inputs, security forces launched a search operation in the south-western region of the district, recovering arms and ammunition from the site following the encounter.

Additionally, in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district, two women Naxalites were killed during an encounter with police forces. The operation was launched based on reports that members of the Gatta Local Organization Squad (LOS) were camping near Modaske village in Etapalli Taluka.

According to Superintendent of Police Neelotpal, the operation involved five C-60 units under the command of Additional SP Aheri, Satya Sai Karthik, with assistance from CRPF personnel. During the jungle search, the team came under heavy fire from Maoists and retaliated effectively. The search operation led to the recovery of two bodies, an AK-47 rifle, a pistol, live ammunition, and Maoist literature.
